The Sporades

Backed by two spectacular mountain ranges, Euboea and Pelion (homeland of Centaurs), the Sporades archipelago is one of the leading destinations for tourism in Greece. Moderate winds, pleasant temperatures, pine forests hurtling down to the beach. The almost uninhabited island of Kyra Panaghia and some nearby desert islets constitute a natural park and a protection area for monk seals (Monachus Monachus). The architecture is influenced by the style of Epirus and Mount Pelion, nearby, where it is good to cross in August when tourists sweep over Skiathos. The most popular island is the beautiful island of Skiathos, with its stunning beaches (like Lalaria if there is no wind) and historic churches. Another well-known island is Skopelos; ideal for calm and relaxation. This is where the movie ‘MAMMA MIA’ was shot! Peaceful Alonissos and intact Skyros are also popular, especially for visitors seeking tranquility.
